The #2 Fishers Tigers Varsity Baseball Team (16-2/8-0) defeated #10 Harrison Raiders 7-0 behind Reid Garber’s 1-hit complete game shutout. The game was the 2nd game as part of the Tigers split doubleheader. The Tigers defeated Lawrence North earlier in the day. Garber (3-0) was near perfect Saturday night. He retired the first 11 batters before giving up a single and then proceeded to retire the next 8 batters he faced. With 1 out in the 7th inning, the 2nd Raider batter reached base on an error. The next batter was hit by a pitch, but Garber quickly ended the game inducing a 5-4-3 double play. Overall, Garber faced just 2 batters above the minimum. Garber allowed 1 hit and struck out 3. He only threw 77 pitches in the complete game shutout. The Tigers offense only struck out once in the game, as they continued to barrel up baseballs. Despite hitting balls hard, the Tigers could only muster 1 run in the 3rd. Zander Carnahan’s RBI single scored courtesy runner Owen Lukac. With a 1-0 lead and 1 out in the 7th, the Tigers offense finally exploded for 6 more runs. Luke Cherry and Trevor Hall both had RBI groundouts. Mayo Fernandez contributed an RBI single, and Carter Strole added an RBI double. Another Tiger runner scored on an error and another on a passed ball. Carnahan, Fernandez, and Strole all had 2 hits apiece. Carnahan, Cherry, Hall, Fernandez, and Strole each contributed an RBI. Despite 1 error, the Tigers defense made several incredible plays. All 3 outfielders (Carnahan, Repp, and Hall) chased down flyballs that initially appeared out of reach. Jase Johnson, Fernandez, and Jase Ruggles turned the 5-4-3 double play to end the game. The Tigers return to action on Monday at 6:30pm when they travel to #16 Carmel Greyhounds.
