Tigers Varsity Baseball Explode for 5 Runs in 10th to Win in Extras at Lawrence North

The #2 Fishers Tigers Varsity Baseball Team (15-2/8-0) let the lead slip away in the 7th, but exploded for 5 runs in the 10th to defeat Lawrence North Wildcats 10-5 in 10 innings in the 1st game of a split doubleheader on Saturday. After the Wildcats scored a run with 1 out in the 7th to tie the game at 5, Jase Ruggles came into the game with the winning run at 3rd. Ruggles recorded an out on a line drive to 2nd baseman Mayo Fernandez with the infield playing in, and then, struck out the next batter to send the game to extras. Ruggles (1-0) earned the victory on the mound and was a bulldog in 2.2 innings of work. In addition to working out of the jam in the 7th, Ruggles also left the bases loaded in the 9th. The Tigers finally broke the game open with 5 runs in the 10th. Fernandez led off the inning with a single and was forced out at 2nd on Vincent Pecoraro’s sacrifice bunt attempt. Pecoraro would quickly steal 2nd before scoring on Justin Brown’s 2-strike go ahead RBI single to right centerfield. Deagan Repp followed with his own 2-strike RBI single to score courtesy runner Collin Bumps. Repp went 1st to 3rd on Huston Dunn’s single to right field. Zander Carnahan was intentionally walked to load the bases with 1 out. Luke Cherry plated Repp with an RBI ground out to the 2nd baseman. Trevor Hall delivered the final blow, a 2-run single to score Dunn and Carnahan. Trevor Hall worked a scoreless 10th inning with 2 strikeouts to close out the Tigers victory. Repp led the Tigers with a 4-6 game at the plate. Repp had an RBI, scored 3 runs, and stole a base. Dunn and Brown both had 3 hits and 2 RBI. Hall contributed 2 hits and 2 RBI, and Fernandez also had 2 hits. Cherry finished with 2 RBI. The Tigers used 6 pitchers. Collin Hebert started the game and picked up a no decision in 3 innings of work. Hebert allowed 2 earned runs on 4 hits while striking out 1. Carter Strole pitched 2 innings in relief and allowed 1 earned run on 1 hit and 4 walks. Quinn Distler pitched 1 scoreless inning with a strikeout. Carnahan pitched 0.1 innings allowing 1 earned run on 2 hits. After the game, the Tigers returned home before loading the bus again to travel to Lafayette Harrison for a night game at 6pm.
