Varsity Baseball Wins Season Opener 4-3 Over Bloomington South

Varsity vs Bloomington South High School (4 - 3) Win The #7 Fishers Tigers Varsity Baseball Team (1-0/0-0) defeated #12 Bloomington South Panthers 4-3 to start the 2025 season. The Tigers scored first with 2 runs in the bottom of the 2nd. Luke Cherry led off the frame with a single to centerfield. Trevor Hall was hit with the next pitch to put runners at 1st and 2nd with no outs. Carter Strole laid down a perfect sacrifice bunt to advance both runners. Cherry scored the first run on Jase Ruggles’ safety squeeze. Ruggles reached safely when the throw pulled the 2nd baseman off the bag as he was covering 1st. The errant throw allowed Hall to score from 2nd to give the Tigers a 2-0 lead. The Panthers answered with 1 unearned run in the top of the 3rd. The Tigers answered right back with 2 more runs in the bottom half of the inning to extend their lead to 4-1. Deagan Repp reached on a walk to lead off the inning. Huston Dunn followed with an RBI triple that hit off the centerfielder’s glove as he jumped for the line drive. Zander Carnahan delivered an RBI single to centerfield on the very next pitch. Owen Sanders (1-0) made the start on the mound and was outstanding. Sanders pitched 4.2 innings and allowed 2 earned runs on 5 hits, while striking out 4 and not allowing a walk. With a 4-3 lead, 2 outs, and a runner on 1st, Sanders handed the ball off to left-handed reliever Owen Lukac. Lukac issued a walk before picking up a strikeout to end the inning and the Panthers rally. Lukac pitched a scoreless 6th inning to finish his 1.1 innings of work with 3 strikeouts and no runs. Zander Carnahan earned his 1st save of the season by striking out the side in the 7th. The Tigers defense was outstanding all night long. Trevor Hall made a diving catch in foul territory down right field line, stood up and threw a bullet to Huston Dunn to double up a runner trying to advance to 2nd. Mayo Fernandez also played flawless defense at 2nd base. Fernandez made a great diving play up the middle and threw the runner out at 1st. Fernandez also turned a 4U-3 double play and finished the night with 5 assists. Carter Strole recorded an out with a great play on a bunt. The Tigers return to action Friday afternoon with a doubleheader at Grand Park vs. #20 Carroll Chargers. First pitch is scheduled for 12pm.
