Volleyball opens HCC play with win vs. Zionsville

The Tigers were in sync tonight, as Varsity Volleyball kicked off the Hoosier Crossroads Conference season with a 3-1 win versus visiting Zionsville. Fishers had 53 kills on 0.303 attacking The systems of the team were led equally by senior Kennedy Tinch and junior Ava Tester, each collecting 22 assists and 10 digs. Senior Elaina Wehrman led FHS with 13 kills, and senior Ava Gutt was close behind with 12. Senior Izzy Bowman's nine kills on 0.750 attacking and senior Aubree Valcourt's seven kills on 0.500 attacking reflected the highly efficient nature of the Tigers' offense. "The players have been working extremely hard to be detail-oriented, and they stepped up tonight," Varsity Head Coach Steven Peek said. "The players have set the bar high this season and are out to prove that difficult things are not impossible." Senior libero Jules Kellogg's 23 digs stood out, especially when controlling the powerful attacks of Zionsville's Josie Imes and Elli Strecker. Gutt (4), Valcourt (3), Bowman (3) and Mays (2) used blocking prowess to slow the Eagles' attack as well. Fishers next plays two road matches Saturday at Floyd Central, first against the host Highlanders and then against Our Lady of Providence.
