FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - AUGUST 1, 2024 Mudsock Rivalry Basketball Game between Fishers High School and Hamilton Southeastern tips off at new Fishers Event Center December 20 WHAT: The Mudsock Rivalry Basketball Game will be part of the initial event lineup at the new Fishers Event Center, the largest mid-size event center in the Indianapolis region set to open its doors in November 2024. The matchup between the Fishers High School Tigers and the Hamilton Southeastern Royals has been played since the 2006-2007 school year when Fishers opened as a new high school. Currently HSE Boys lead the series 10-7 and the HSE Girls lead 11-6. WHEN: The highly anticipated matchup will take place on Friday, December 20 with a 6 p.m. girls game and 8 p.m. boys game (doors open at 5 p.m.). WHY IS IT CALLED MUDSOCK? Back in the late 1890s and early 1900s, the community acquired the nickname of “Mudsock” because of the swampy nature of the soil. The ground was so muddy that residents would get stuck in mud up to their ankles, and their horses would have mud caked around their feet looking like brown socks. The name “Mudsock” became a nickname.
