Football falls to Westfield in regular season home finale

By Matt Poisel | Oct 9, 2026 9:28 PM

The Fishers Tigers hosted the Westfield Shamrocks for the regular season home finale, but fell 42-21 to the Rocks. The Tigers played well offensively, but three big plays for the Rocks proved to be enough to pull away. Quarterback Roman Wessell was 30 for 46 for 314 yards and 3 touchdowns, including 2 to Hayden Skelton. Skelton finished with 12 receptions for 104 yards. Darian Girton hauled in 6 passes for 97 yards and one touchdown. Keegan Gates also had 6 catches for 70 yards. Ryan Oh paced the offense on the ground as he had 19 carries for 92 yards. The Tigers received the opening kickoff and put together a great opening drive. Except for a tipped pass from Wessell that he caught himself for a loss, every offensive play was 6 yards or better. Fishers got into the red zone, but fumbled at the goal line as the Shamrocks took possession. Westfield took advantage as Melvin found Caiden Snow for 63 yards to get across midfield before Melvin kept it himself for a 15-yard keeper to give the Rocks the early lead. Fishers answered with another drive gaining yards both on the ground and through the air. Wessel found Hayden Skelton in the back corner of the end zone on 4th down to tie the game at 7. The tie was short lived as a 62-yard pass gave the Rocks the lead right back as the first quarter ended. Fishers had two good drives in the 2nd quarter, but couldn’t capitalize and put points on the board from either drive. The Tigers were sacked on 3rd down forcing a punt. Jordan Kinder pinned the Rocks at their own 7 with a great punt. Westfield was able to drive the 93 yards including a 50-yard catch and run to extend the lead to 21-7 for the Rocks. The Tigers appeared to have something going with under 2 minutes in the half, but a couple dropped passes stalled the drive, and Fishers was forced to punt. Graham Stout pinned the Rocks at their own 8 and Westfield chose to take a knee and the 14-point lead into the locker room. The Shamrocks took the opening kickoff and put together a drive primarily on the ground as Clevenger finished with a 10-yard run to extend the lead. The Tigers answered right back with a solid drive including three 3rd down conversions. The final conversion was a touchdown pass from Wessell to Darian Girton. But as they did throughout the night, Westfield answered with a quick score as the Rocks scored from 70 yards out. Fishers put together a sustained drive that ended the 3rd quarter and moved into the 4th. With just a couple minutes gone in the 4th, Wessell found Skelton again on almost the same route as earlier to cut the lead to 35-21. However, another long run by the Shamrocks again pushed the lead to 21 points for Westfield in the 4th quarter. Fishers put together another drive including two 4th down conversions, but was unable to convert on a third as the Tigers turned the ball over on downs with just under 4 minutes to play. The Rocks gained a couple first downs, and were able to run out the clock to secure a 42-21 victory.
