The Fishers Tigers Varsity Baseball Team (16-13) came from behind in the bottom of the 12th to walkoff the Westfield Shamrocks by a score of 8-7. The Tigers held a 6-1 lead through 3 innings, but the Shamrocks battled back scoring 2 in the 4th, 2 in the 5th, and 1 in the 7th to send the game to extra innings. After 4 scoreless extra innings, the Shamrocks finally pushed across the go-ahead run in the top of the 12th. However, the Tigers were resilient and showed incredible fight in the bottom of the 12th. David Pina led off the last inning with a single to left. Isaac Fernandez beat out a bunt single, and courtesy runner Carter Davis made a heads-up play advancing from 1st to 3rd on the bunt. Vincent Pecoraro laid down a perfect safety squeeze to score Davis and tie the game. An error on the safety squeeze allowed Fernandez and Pecoraro to advance to 2nd and 3rd. The Shamrocks elected to intentionally walk Asher Nelson to load the bases with no outs. Henry Cherry worked the count to 3-2, fouling off a couple of pitches, and eventually drew the bases loaded walk to score Fernandez and win the game. The Tigers scored their first run in the 1st when Carter Strole singled with 2 outs. David Pina followed with an infield single. Strole was running on the play and was able to score from 1st base on the errant throw trying to throw out Pina. After the Shamrocks tied the game in the top of the 3rd, the Tigers exploded for 5 runs in the bottom half of the inning to push their lead to 6-1. The Tigers took advantage of 4 Shamrock errors, a walk, a loud RBI double from Carter Strole that scored Ethan Buelt from 1st, and a perfectly executed safety squeeze from Pecoraro for an RBI. After the 3rd inning, the Tigers bats when quiet, collecting only 3 hits from the 4th through the 11th until the heroic 12th inning. Four pitchers kept the Tigers in the game until the offense sparked the winning rally in the 12th inning. Hayden Werner started the game and earned a no decision in 4 innings of work. Werner allowed 3 earned runs on 3 hits while striking out 6 and walking 4. Owen Lukac pitched the 5th inning and allowed 2 earned runs on 2 hits with 1 strikeout and 1 walk. Grant Wolf pitched three innings of relief and was electric although he did allow the tying run in the 7th on just 1 hit. Wolf finished with 3 strikeouts and 3 walks and received help in the 7th with a bases loaded line drive double play by Cherry and Nelson to end the inning and keep the game tied. Austin Conley (6-1) pitched the final 4 innings to earn the victory in relief. Conley retired the first 7 batters he faced. The Shamrocks finally broke through to score the go ahead run in the 12th after Conley had pitched 3 scoreless innings. Conley finished by allowing 1 earned run on 2 hits while striking out 3 and walking 1. The Tigers victory earned them a place in Monday’s Sectional Championship game vs. the Zionsville Eagles. The game is scheduled to start at 6pm and will be played at The Dunk in front of Hazel Dell Elementary in Noblesville. The Tigers will be playing in the Sectional Championship for the 7th time in the last 9 seasons and the 3rd year in a row.
