The Fishers Tigers Varsity Baseball Team (10-12/6-4) walked off the Avon Orioles in the bottom of the 7th on a wild pitch to win 3-2. The Orioles opened the scoring with 2 runs in the 2nd to take a 2-0 lead. The first run came with 2 outs, as the Oriole batter connected on an 0-2 triple down the right field line. The 2nd run scored on a passed ball on the very next pitch. The Tigers responded with 2 outs in the bottom of the 2nd to tie the game at 2. Vinny Pecoraro singled to left to start the 2-out rally. Asher Nelson followed with an infield single into the 6-hole, and Henry Cherry loaded the bases with a 2-out walk. Andrew Baldini smoked a 2-strike single into right field to score Pecoraro and Nelson to tie the game. Starting pitcher Hayden Werner kept the Orioles off balance with lots of groundballs and popups. Werner earned a no decision pitching 6 innings allowing 1 earned run on 4 hits, while striking out 7 and walking 1. Werner handed the ball off to reliever Grant Wolf, who was outstanding in the 7th. Wolf struck out the side throwing 9 strikes from the 12 pitches he threw. The Tigers rode the momentum from Wolf’s 1-2-3 7th inning into the bottom half. Baldini continued his hot night with a leadoff single. Baldini advanced to 2nd when the centerfielder bobbled the ball. While trying to bunt, Justin Brown was walked to put runners on 1st and 2nd. Owen Lukac loaded the bases when he reached on a fielder’s choice, and the Orioles made a defensive error in the attempt to get Tiger runner out at 2nd. Two pitches later, the Orioles threw a wild pitch to the backstop to allow Baldini to score the winning run. Baldini led the offense with a 2 for 3 night, recording the Tigers only 2 RBI. David Pina, Isaac Fernandez, Pecoraro, Nelson, and Cherry each contributed a single. The Tigers return to action Friday night when they host the McCutcheon Mavericks at 6:30pm.
