The Fishers Tigers Varsity Baseball Team (9-12/5-4) received a pitching gem from Austin Conley Wednesday night at Avon. Conley allowed only 1 base runner in his 71-pitch, 1-hit complete game shutout over the Orioles. The Tigers scored their only run in the 2nd. Isaac Fernandez walked to leadoff the inning. Asher Nelson hit the very next pitch into deep left centerfield to score Fernandez from 1st base. Nelson’s RBI double proved to be the game winning RBI. Conley allowed his only base runner in the bottom of the 2nd as the Orioles hit a bloop pop-up into shallow centerfield. The Tigers defenders collided as one player dove and the other raced to catch it. The collision allowed the ball to drop safely for a leadoff double. Conley induced a groundout on the next pitch, and the Oriole runner advanced to 3rd with 1-out. Conley went to work on the next 2 batters, as he recorded back-to-back strikeouts to end the inning and strand the runner at 3rd. Conley would not allow another base runner for the rest of the game, as he retired 17 in a row to finish the game. Conley was brilliant throughout his 1-hit complete game shutout. He only went to a 3-ball count 1 time in the entire game and only went to 2 balls on a hitter 5 times. Conley finished the game delivering 50 strikes out of his 71 pitches. He recorded 5 strikeouts. Offensively, the Tigers connected on 4 total hits. Nelson had the RBI double. Owen Lukac and Vincent Pecoraro both doubled. Henry Cherry added a single. The Tigers return home to face the same Avon Orioles on Thursday night at 6:30pm.
