Tigers Varsity Baseball Battled into Extras Before Losing to Royals on a 2-Out Walkoff in 9th Inning

The Fishers Tigers Varsity Baseball Team (8-10/4-4) battled through a great ball game but fell short to #15 Southeastern Royals in 9 innings. The Tigers and Royals traded unearned runs in the 6th inning to send the game to extra innings tied 1-1. The Royals threatened every inning from the 5th inning through the 9th inning, but the Tiger pitchers continued to work out of jams until the 9th. With 2 outs and bases loaded, relief pitcher Grant Wolf got the Royals to pop up a 2-2 pitch to right field, but the ball flew up above the lights and the Tigers right fielder, centerfielder, and 2nd baseman all lost the ball in the twilight sky. The routine flyball lost in the sky fell to the ground safely for the Royals to walkoff the Tigers 2-1. Starting pitcher Owen Lukac was nearly perfect through 4 innings and had a no hitter through 2 outs into the 5th. Only 1 batter reached base on an error in the first 4 innings. In the 5th, the leadoff batter reached on a walk but was erased when catcher David Pina caught him stealing. After a strikeout for out #2, the Royals finally broke up the no hitter with a 2-out single. The next batter walked before Lukac recorded a strikeout for the final out of the 5th. Lukac worked 5 innings, did not allow a run, gave up only 1 hit, and struck out 7 while walking 2. Carter Strole came on in relief for 3 innings and worked in and out of trouble. The first batter Strole faced reached on an error and eventually scored. Strole allowed 1 unearned run on 2 hits with 4 strikeouts but walked 2 and hit 2 batters. Wolf (0-2) was the tough luck loser, as he actually worked out of the 9th if the final out was not lost in the twilight sky. Offensively, the Tigers struggled all night. Lukac and Strole each recorded a hit, the Tigers only 2 hits of the night. The Tigers only had 4 baserunners reach 2nd base with Lukac scoring the Tigers only run when a drop 3rd strikeout was overthrown at 1st base. The Tigers return home to play Greenfield-Central on Saturday evening at 6pm.
