The Fishers JV2 Silver Tigers (3-5) leaned on strong pitching and clean defense to secure a 4-1 win over Westfield Rocks on Thursday, completing the back-to-back sweep. The game started as a pitcher’s duel, with both teams being held scoreless in the 1st inning. Fishers went down in order, while the defense came up big in the bottom half, turning a double play to erase an early Westfield baserunner and keep the game tied. Fishers broke through in the 2nd inning by putting pressure on the defense. After working baserunners on, Isaac Repp aggressively moved into scoring position and eventually came around to score on a Westfield error, giving the Tigers a 1-0 lead despite not recording a hit in the inning. Westfield threatened in the bottom of the 2nd with a single and a walk, but Landon Sanders stayed composed on the mound, stranding runners and keeping the lead intact. The Tigers added to their lead in the 3rd inning. Sanders helped his own cause with a double to get things started, and after advancing into scoring position, Dawson Gustin executed a sacrifice bunt to bring home a run and extend the lead to 2-0. From there, Sanders settled into a rhythm on the mound. He worked efficiently through the middle innings, backed by a defense that was sharp all game long. Fishers turned multiple double plays and did not commit a single error, consistently shutting down any momentum Westfield tried to build. Fishers created more separation in the 5th inning. After reaching base and applying pressure, Nate Birsa drove in a run with a ground ball, and the Tigers capitalized on another Westfield miscue to push the lead to 3-0. In the 6th inning, the Tigers added an insurance run thanks to aggressive baserunning. Max Bishton reached base and used his speed to create chaos, eventually scoring on a throwing error after advancing into scoring position, making it 4-0. Westfield finally broke through in the bottom of the 6th, stringing together a couple of hits to plate a run and cut the lead to 4-1. However, the Tigers responded immediately on defense, turning a clutch double play to end the inning and stop the rally. In the 7th, Sanders closed the door. After allowing a couple of baserunners, he worked out of trouble and got the final outs to secure the complete game victory. Sanders was outstanding on the mound, going the distance while allowing just one run on four hits, striking out three. Offensively, hits were limited, but the Tigers made the most of their opportunities with timely execution, aggressive baserunning, and forcing defensive mistakes. Fishers JV2 Silver Tigers will look to carry this momentum into their next matchup against Hamilton Southeastern.
