The Fishers Tigers Varsity Baseball Team (5-6/2-2) received a 5-hit combined shutout from Austin Conley and Carter Strole to defeat #9 Noblesville Millers on Friday night at Tiger Field. All aspects of the game were clicking tonight for the Tigers. They received 2 outstanding pitching performances, played flawless defense, and had great 2-strike and 2-out hitting. The Tigers appeared to be locked in a pitcher’s duel through 2-outs in the bottom of the 3rd. The Millers had struck out 5 straight Tiger batters and 6 of last 7 when Vincent Pecoraro grinded out a 2-strike, 2-out line drive single to right. Pecoraro worked the count to 2-2 and then fouled off 2 pitches before extending the inning with his single. Pecoraro’s AB set the stage for Ethan Buelt who drove the 1st pitch he saw over the left centerfield fence for a 2-run homerun to give the Tigers a 2-0 lead. The homerun was Buelt’s 2nd on the season. In the bottom of the 4th, the Tigers were once again successful with 2-strikes and 2-outs. Henry Cherry lined a 2-strike, 2-out single to right to score Justin Brown who walked earlier and Owen Lukac who had doubled to left. Cherry’s 2-run single extended the Tigers lead to 4-0. The Tigers continued to stack runs by scoring 4 more runs in the 5th inning. Pecoraro and Buelt worked back-to-back walks to start the inning. After a double steal by Pecoraro and Buelt, David Pina scored Pecoraro with an RBI sacrifice fly. With 2 outs, Brown induced a walk and proceeded to steal 2nd to put runners at 2nd and 3rd. Connor Hackworth followed with a 2-strike, 2-out 2RBI single to right. Parker Congdon finished out the scoring with an RBI double. As good as the offense was, Conley and Strole were equally as good. The two pitchers only allowed 7 baserunners all game combining on a 5-hit shutout. The Millers could only manage for 3 baserunners to reach 2nd and all 3 did so with 2 outs before the innings ended with the very next batter. Conley (2-0) was the winning pitcher, pitching 4 innings of 2-hit baseball while striking out 5 and walking 1. Strole pitched the final 3 innings for his 1st save of the season. Strole allowed 3 hits and hit 1 batter while striking out 5. Offensively, the Tigers were led by Buelt’s 2 hits, including a homerun, and 2 RBI. Cherry and Hackworth both had a single and 2RBI. Congdon contributed an RBI double. Pecoraro and Buelt were both on base 4 times. Pecoraro finished 1-1 with 2 walks, a hit by pitch, 2 runs scored, and a stolen base. Buelt finished 2-2 with a homerun, 2 RBI, 2 walks, 2 runs, and a stolen base. The Tigers return to action Saturday night at 6pm when they host the Greenfield-Central Cougars.
