The Fishers JV Silver Tigers (1-3) fell to Mt. Vernon in Saturday’s second game. Fishers got on the board early but was unable to generate enough offense as Mt. Vernon used a key inning in the middle of the game to take control. Fishers broke through in the 2nd inning after showing patience at the plate and loading the bases, with Landon Sanders drawing a walk to bring in the first run and give the Tigers a 1-0 lead. The game remained tight early as Henry Gonso worked through the first two innings on the mound, keeping Mt. Vernon off the board. Mt. Vernon took the lead in the 3rd inning, stringing together baserunners before a two-RBI single gave them a 2-1 advantage. They added to that lead in the 5th inning, taking advantage of traffic on the bases and a passed ball that allowed a run to score, extending the lead to 3-1. Fishers made a push in the 6th inning and created an opportunity to get back into the game. After putting multiple runners on, a passed ball allowed Reed Grampp to score while Dawson Gustin moved to third and Mason Walker advanced to second, cutting the deficit to 3-2 with runners in scoring position. However, Fishers was unable to come up with a key hit, leaving runners on base and ending the rally. Gonso started on the mound and turned in a strong outing, working 4.2 innings while allowing just three hits and two earned runs, striking out six and keeping the Tigers within reach. Kellen Battershield came in relief and finished the game.
