The Fishers JV Silver Tigers (1-2) came up short in a 5-4 loss to Mt. Vernon on Saturday’s first game. The Tigers jumped out to an early lead but were unable to recover after a big first inning from Mt. Vernon which gave them the advantage for the remainder of the game. Fishers got off to a strong start in the top of the 1st, as Reed Grampp and Alex Stiefel each delivered RBI singles to give the Tigers an early 2-0 lead. Mt. Vernon responded immediately in the bottom half, capitalizing on free basses and timely hitting. A bases-loaded walk brought in the first run, and a three-run double later in the inning flipped the game to a 4-2 deficit for Fishers. The Tigers chipped away in the middle innings. In the 3rd, Fishers loaded the bases with a combination of walks and hit-by-pitches before a hit batter brought home a run to cut the deficit to 4-3. Fishers added another run in the 5th on a sacrifice fly by Nate Birsa but still trailed by one-run 5-4. Despite multiple opportunities, the Tigers were unable to come up with a key hit late to take the lead. On the mound, Koltyn Stewart started and worked through the early innings only allowing 1H, while Eli Engebretson provided relief and recorded multiple strikeouts to keep the game close.
