Fishers Tigers JV2 Silver (0-1) drops their home opener 11-7 against Zionsville. The Tigers put together a strong offensive performance but came up short despite outhitting their opponent 10-8. The Tigers showed consistent production throughout the lineup and aggressive baserunning, but struggled defensively at times to control the baseball, which proved costly as the game progressed. Fishers got things going early as Dawson Gustin singled and later came around to score in the third inning on an RBI double from Eli Engebretson to give the Tigers a 2-1 lead. After getting on the board in the second inning off a sacrifice fly from Zach Dowd, the Tigers continued to build momentum in the middle innings. In the fourth, Fishers put together one of their best innings of the day as Gustin delivered a big two-run triple to give the Tigers a 4-2 advantage. The Tigers continued to create opportunities offensively, adding on in the later innings behind aggressive baserunning and pressure on the defense. Gustin led the way at the plate going 3-4 with a triple and three stolen bases, while the team totaled six stolen bases on the day. Fishers was able to capitalize on multiple scoring chances, including manufacturing runs through sacrifice flies, extra base hits, and taking advantage of passed balls. However, a few defensive miscues and missed opportunities to limit damage allowed momentum to shift late. John Frank got the start on the mound and worked into the middle innings while striking out three, and Nate Birsa came in relief and battled through the final frames. The Tigers continued to compete until the final out, adding late runs and keeping pressure on, but ultimately fell short.
