The #6 Fishers Tigers Varsity Baseball Team (3-3/1-0) came from behind to defeat #7 Zionsville Eagles 6-5 in the first game of HCC play. Down 4-2, Vincent Pecoraro led off the 5th inning with an infield single, his 2nd hit of the night. Ethan Buelt and Carter Strole worked back-to-back walks to load the bases with nobody out. After an Eagles pitching change, David Pina attacked the first pitch for a 2-run single up the middle to tie the game at 4. Justin Brown followed with a perfectly executed sacrifice bunt to move Tigers runners to 2nd and 3rd. On the first pitch of the next at bat, Sean Frey delivered the 2-run go ahead single to give the Tigers a 6-4 lead. Starting pitcher Owen Lukac (1-1) earned the victory on the mound. Lukac pitched well in his 5 innings of work. He ran into trouble in the 2nd inning allowing 3 runs, only 2 earned, before leaving the bases loaded with back-to-back strikeouts in the middle of the Eagles batting lineup. Lukac settled in after that, striking out 7 and only allowing an additional unearned run in the 5th inning. After the Tigers took the lead in the bottom of the 5th, Lukac handed the ball to the Tigers relievers, Jerry Jaramillo and Grant Wolf. Jaramillo worked a quick 6th inning allowing only 1 infield single. Jaramillo started the 7th inning and issued back-to-back walks before Wolf entered to earn his 1st save of the season. Wolf struck out the final Eagles batter, leaving the tying run on 3rd and the go ahead run at 2nd. Pecoraro led the Tigers with 2 hits and 2 runs scored. Ethan Buelt also contributed an RBI single. The Tigers travel to Zionsville on Friday for Game 2 of the HCC Series starting at 6pm.
