The #6 Fishers Tigers Varsity Baseball Team (1-2/0-0) split the first 2 games in Tennessee, losing the first game to Houston (TN) 7-4 before winning the 2nd game against the host Rossview (TN) by a score of 6-2. In Game 1, the Tigers fell behind 5-0 in the top of 1st against Houston (TN) and gave up 2 more runs in the 2nd to trail 7-0. The Tigers responded well to the early deficit and chipped away throughout the rest of the game as they scored a run in each of the 3rd, 4th, 6th, and 7th innings. In the 7th, the Tigers also had bases loaded with 1 out and the tying run at the plate. After scoring a run, the Tigers again had 2 runners on with 2 outs and the tying run at the plate, but they were unable to complete the comeback. Offensively, Asher Nelson delivered an RBI double. Carter Strole and Ethan Buelt both had singles and an RBI groundout. Sean Frey also contributed a single. Owen Lukac (0-1) picked up the loss in 3 innings of work. Lukac allowed 5 earned runs on 5 hits, while striking out 3 and walking 2. After a rough 5-run 1st inning, Lukac settled in and retired the final 6 batters he faced. Miles Tebben pitched extremely well in 3 scoreless innings of relief. Tebben retired 9 out of the 10 batters he faced, allowing only 1 base runner on a walk. Andrew Baldini pitched a scoreless 7th inning without giving up a hit. There were 2 baserunners that reached against Baldini both on defensive errors. Tebben’s and Baldini’s effort in relief allowed the Tigers to slowly get back into the game that finished with the last 2 Tiger batters hitting as the potential tying run. Overall, after giving up 7 runs in the 1st inning plus 2 batters in the 2nd, the Tigers pitchers combined to retire 18 of the final 21 batters they faced with the 3 batters reaching on a walk and 2 defensive errors. In Game 2, the Tigers scored 2 runs quickly in the top of the 1st and never relinquished the lead. Vincent Pecoraro led off the game with a double into right centerfield. Two batters later, Carter Strole plated Pecoraro with an RBI double to left. Rossview answered back with 1 in the bottom half of the 1st, but that was the only threat they offered, as they could only get 1 base runner in scoring position in innings 2-6. Ethan Buelt led off the 4th with a single, stole 2nd, and later scored on Henry Cherry’s RBI groundout. The Tigers extended their lead to 6-1 with 3 insurance runs in the top of the 7th. David Pina delivered a bases loaded 2-run single to left, and Miles Tebben earned an RBI when he was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Carter Strole (1-1) earned the victory on the mound working 5 innings of relief. Strole did not allow a run and only allowed 1 hit while striking out 3. Austin Conley worked as an opener in this game, as he pitched the 1st inning on a controlled pitch count. Conley allowed 1 run but induced a 6-4-3 double play with the bases loaded to work out of the jam. Grant Wolf pitched the 7th inning allowing 1 run on 4 walks with a strikeout. The Tigers finish up their Spring Trip to Tennessee with 2 more games on Saturday at Clarksville High School. The Tigers will play Christian County (KY) and host Clarksville (TN).
