The Fishers Tigers Varsity Baseball team (14-14/6-6) put together one of their most complete games of the season and finished the night with a bottom of the 7th 4-3 walkoff win over 3A #6 Benton Central Bison.

With the score tied 3-3, JJ Woolwine led off the bottom of the 7th with a single to right field. Two pitches later he stole 2nd and then advanced to 3rd on Grant Whetsel’s deep flyball to centerfield. With 1 out, Nick Lukac was intentionally walked to setup the double play for the Bison, but Kiel Brenczewski hit a 1-0 line drive to left field to score Woolwine and win the game for the Tigers.

The Tigers scored 3 runs in the 3rd inning. Woolwine reached on an error, because he sprinted down the baseline on the comebacker to the pitcher. Whetsel followed with a single. Woolwine and Whetsel then executed a double steal in front of Lukac’s 2-run double over the centerfielder’s head. Lukac would later score on Kaid Muth’s RBI single.

Whetsel, Brenczewski, and Muth all had 2-hit nights. Lukac led the Tigers with 2 RBI.

Four Tiger pitchers combined to throw a 1-hitter against the Bison. Mason Sweeney started the game and took a no hitter into the 5th inning before allowing the only hit of the night with 2 outs. Sweeney would throw 4.2 innings, allow 3 earned runs on 1 hit, while striking out 3. Sweeney did walk 2 and hit 3 batters. Michael Hart came on in relief with runners on 1st and 3rd. Hart threw 2 pitches and induced a fly ball to end the 5th inning with the score tied at 3.

AJ Waltermann made his 2019 pitching debut after recovering from an injury. Waltermann struck out the side in the 6th. Jack Minns (3-1) earned the victory, as he struck out 1 and pitched a perfect 1-2-3 inning in the 7th.

The Tigers finish the regular season with their final HCC Series against the Brownsburg Bulldogs. The Tigers host the Bulldogs on Thursday at 6pm for Senior Night before traveling to Brownsburg on Friday night for the season finale.
