Mason Sweeney started on the mound and was brilliant for 6 innings. Sweeney allowed 3 hits and 1 earned run with 4 strikeouts and 2 walks through 6 innings. With a 3-1 lead, Sweeney ran out of gas in the 7th and walked the first 2 batters he faced before being relieved by Cory Wolter. The Dragons were able to push across 2 runs to tie the score at 3 and send the game to extra innings. Overall, Sweeney allowed 3 earned runs in 6+ innings of work.

The Tigers answered right back in the top of the 8th with timely hitting and great base running. Daniel Owens led off the 8th with a single to left field. JP Preston executed a perfect sac bunt to move pinch runner Tristan Baker to 2nd base. Kaid Muth followed with a 2-strike line drive up the middle to score Baker. Muth advanced to 2nd on the throw to the plate setting up Dom Oliverio’s 2-strike RBI single to centerfield to score Muth. Oliverio also advanced to 2nd on an errant throw back into the infield. The Tigers would not score any more runs, but the damage was done.

In the bottom of the 8th and the Tigers leading 5-3, the Dragons first 2 batters again reached on a walk and a single, but Wolter shutdown the Dragon attack with a strikeout and 2 fly balls to end the game. Wolter (1-0) earned his first win of the season in 2 innings of relief.

Offensively, the Tigers were led by Nick Lukac with 2 hits and 2 RBI, Grant Whetsel with 2 hits and 2 runs scored, and Kiel Brenczewski and Kaid Muth each with 2 hits and an RBI. Oliverio also added an RBI single.
