The Fishers Tigers JV Red team (1-1/0-0) dropped an exciting game to the Carmel Greyhounds by a score of 8-7 in 8 innings. The Greyhounds jumped out to an early 2-0 lead as the first two batters reached base and were eventually driven in with sacrifice flies. The Tigers responded in the 2nd inning as Kaden Gorak drove in Jeffrey Simmons who had reached earlier on a walk and then tied the game in the 3rd as Riley Padron scored on a hard groundout by Ian Willoughby.

The Tigers briefly took the lead in the 4th inning as Evan Allbright walked and advanced to 2nd on a wild pitch before Jack Backofen laced a ball right inside 3rd base that allowed Allbright to score and give the Tigers a 3-2 lead. Cam Plew settled in on the mound and recorded the first two outs in the bottom of the 4th before and error and a home run gave the lead back to the Hounds. Carmel would tack on two more in the 5th inning to stretch the lead to 6-3.

The Tigers stormed back in the 6th inning to tie the game with excellent at-bats and quality base running. Simmons again reached on a walk before a double by Padron brought him in. Backofen also walked and eventually scored on a passed ball as did Padron later to tie the game.

The Tigers defense worked well in the bottom of the 6th inning as the Hounds leadoff batter was hit by a pitch, stole 2nd, and then advanced to 3rd, but was unable to score. Cory Wolter was able to strand the runner there with two strikeouts and a great play by Evan Allbright at third throwing over to Willoughby at 1st. The Tigers again fought off the Hounds in the 7th as the first two batters reached base. The Tigers were able to record an unconventional double play with a ground out that turned into two as the runner at 2nd base had strayed too far off.

In the top of the 8th inning, Backofen reached on a fielder’s choice before stealing 2nd. Padron beat out a ground ball to the shortstop as Backofen was running hard and able to score to give the Tigers the lead. In the bottom of the 8th, the leadoff Hound walked and was advanced to 2nd with a bunt. Willougby recorded the 2nd out with a strikeout but a towering fly ball was misplayed in the infield to allow the tying run to score before a bases load walk handed the Tigers an 8-7 loss.
