The Fishers Tigers JV Red team (2-1/0-1) dropped the conference opener to the Zionsville Eagles on a walk off hit by pitch in the bottom of the 8th inning. The teams went back and forth all night as neither team was ever able to pull away.
The Tigers opened the game quickly with 2 runs in the top of the 1st inning behind three consecutive singles. Fishers would manufacture another run in the 3rd using a single and a stolen base from Curtis Kearschner, a sacrifice bunt from Quinn Seefeldt, and an RBI ground out by Gavin Clayton. Zionsville answered to tie the game in the 3rd.
Zionsville took a 6-4 lead after the 6th inning with timely hitting as the Tigers pitchers also struggled to consistently find the strike zone. Fishers continued to fight as Brevin Barker beat out an infield single to start the 7th inning. On a full count, Kearschner walked and Barker attempted to steal 2nd base. The Eagles committed two errors that ultimately allowed Barker to score and Kearscher to end up at 3rd base. Seefeldt singled to drive in Kearschner and tie the game but the Tigers ultimately stranded two runners to end the 7th inning.
Zionsville started the bottom of the 8th with a single before an inside pitch barely grazed the batter and the next Eagle worked a full count walk to load the bases. Another hit by pitch provided the final score.
Seefeldt led the Tigers offensively with a 3-3 night with 1 run and 2 RBIs. Clayton went 2-4 with 2 RBIs and Barker and Kearschner each picked up two hits. Jacob Kohlman pitched well but ultimately did not factor into the decision as he went 5 innings allowing 4 hits and 3 walks while striking out 6.
The same two teams face off in the second game of the conference series Thursday followed by a non-conference matchup Friday evening.
