When you think of the Zionsville Eagles you typically think tall, long and shooters. This Freshman team embodies that fully. The Eagles came out knocking down 3’s and put the Tigers on their heels. At one point trailing by 10 in the Tigers ended the first quarter trailing 9-15. The second quarter the offense (influenced by a strong defensive performance) came alive! Fishers scored 21 to Zionsville’s 9 points in the second going into halftime up six points, 30-24.
The second half was more evenly matched as the teams traded blows the game was close up until the very end. WIth Cole Moritz seeing early foul trouble Blake Jones entered the game early with a big night on the boards and protecting the rim. Kaden Gorak ended with 15 points and 6 boards and Sean Millsaps also saw double figures with 11 points and a couple assists.
The real story was the toughness of the Tiger defense with 20 seconds left and the game tied at 49. Their defense held strong and forced a turnover with 10.4 seconds left. It came down to one play and 10 seconds to execute. After a quick timeout, Josh Forbes drove down the court assisted by Kaden with a strong screen who dumped it off to Blake Jones who finished the play with an open lay-up to go up 51-49 and seal the deal! It was outstanding teamwork and a solid victory.
With two regular season games left the Tigers increase their record to 12-2 and finish out the season on the road; at Noblesville on Wednesday and at Westfield Thursday.
