The Fishers Varsity Boys Basketball team beat host Westfield on Thursday by a final score of 63-53 to extend win streak to 3.
The Tigers opened the game a little sluggish on both ends of the court as the Shamrocks opened up an early 15-12 lead after the 1st quarter. In the 2nd, Fishers would find it’s footing behind a strong quarter by Senior guard Willie Jackson who scored 11 of his game high 19 points in the period helping the Tigers erase their early deficit and take a 28-24 advantage into the break. After halftime, Fishers would make a point of getting the ball downlow to their star big man Jeffrey Simmons who accounted for 14 points in the 3rd quarter alone as the Tigers extended their lead to 47-33 after 3 quarters of play. In the 4th quarter, Westfield would outscore Fishers 20-16 but it wouldn’t be nearly enough as the Tigers closed out their 3rd consecutive win to move to 13-5 overall and 5-1 in the HCC Conference setting up pivotal HCC game with rival Zionsville for a share of the Conference title. Willie Jackson led the Fishers attack with a game-high 19 points followed by Freshman big man Jeffrey Simmons with 18 points and 9 rebounds.
Fishers heads up I-69 for a weekend matchup against Fort Wayne Snider this Saturday, February 2 with tip-off at 1:30 pm.
