The Fishers Varsity Boys Basketball team set a new regular season school record with their 16th win on Wednesday night against the Kokomo Wildcats by a final score of 64-54.
The Tigers jumped on the host Wildcats early taking a quick 11-9 lead after the 1st quarter of play but things would not go quite as planned the rest of the way over the final 8 minutes of the opening half as Kokomo would slowly chip away at the Fishers advantage before taking the lead 21-20 in the final seconds of the 2nd quarter on 2 timely 3-pointers by Freshman Bobby Wonnell. After the break, the Tigers would settle in and ramp up the defensive pressure capitalizing on a handful of Kokomo turnovers in the 3rd quarter as Fishers regained the lead and they would not trail again as they opened up an 8 point advantage heading into the 4th up 41-33. In the 4th quarter, the two teams basically traded baskets the rest of the way as the Tigers held on for a 64-54 victory making school history in the process with their 16th win setting a new regular season record as they finished with a 16-7 record overall. Leading the way for the Tigers was Junior Alex Szilagyi with 17 points followed by Willie Jackson with 16 points.
Fishers opens Sectional play next Tuesday, February 26 when they face the Anderson Indians in the 2nd Quarterfinal Game of Sectional #8 at Carmel High School with tip-off at approximately 8:00 pm.
