The Fishers Varsity Boys Basketball team beat visiting Avon on Friday by a final score of 62-53.
After failing to break the 40-point mark for the first time this season in last weeks lost to fellow HCC Conference rival Brownsburg the Tigers wasted no time in finding their stride against the visiting Orioles as they opened the game with a flurry running out to a quick lead up 15-9 after the 1st quarter. Fishers would not let up in the 2nd quarter using great defensive pressure to push their lead even further heading into the intermission with a 30-18 advantage. At the start of the 3rd quarter, Avon made it very clear they would not simply fold and go away as they opened the period on an 8-0 run before the Tigers regained their composure and ended the quarter on a 21-9 run of their own extending the lead to 51-35 going into the final quarter of play. In the 4th, the Orioles would again come out with a vengeance and even outscored Fishers the rest of the way but the deficit would prove to be insurmountable as the Tigers moved to 11-5 on the season and 3-1 in HCC Conference play with the victory. Spearheading the Fishers attack was Freshman big man Jeffrey Simmons with 14 points and 10 rebounds followed by Josiah Matthews with 14 points, Alex Szilagyi with 11 points, and Willie Jackson chipped in 10 points respectively.
Fishers is off for another week before resuming play with their 3rd of 4 straight HCC Conference games next Saturday, January 26 when they host Conference newcomer Franklin Central with tip-off at 7:30 pm.
