The Fishers Varsity Boys Basketball team won a hard fought game at Muncie Central last Tuesday, December 3, by a final score of 63-53.
In what was technically, a “soft opening” at the fully refurbished Muncie Fieldhouse it didn’t take long for the visiting Tigers to realize they were in for a fight. As they did the week prior, Fishers again I would went inside to big man Jeffrey Simmons to take an early lead but the host Bearcats would only allow the lead to stretch to 1 with the road team ahead 15-14 after the 1st quarter. Fishers would expand on their advantage in the 2nd period forcing Muncie Central into numerous turnovers while also using a barrage of 3 pointers, 4 in the quarter total, pushing the lead to 36-24 going into the half.
The home team would respond with a flurry to open up the 2nd half with the Bearcats using a 14-0 run to take their first lead of the game before the Tigers regained control using a 10-5 run of their own to close out the quarter taking a 46-43 lead into the 4th. Just as they had done the previous week, Fishers would use a strong defensive push to win the ballgame going away converting on 4 forced errors to outscore the Bearcats 17-10 over the last 8 minutes of the game to win 63-53 and move to 2-0 on the season. Leading the way for the Tigers was again Sophomore phenom Jeffrey Simmons with 32 points and 7 rebounds, Alex Szilagyi with 18 points and 3 steals, and fellow Sophomore Charlie Smith with a strong performance off the bench totally 6 points, 10 assists, 6 rebounds, and 5 steals.
Fishers is in action again this Friday, December 6 when they host Hoosier Crossroads Conference and Hamilton County rival Noblesville with tip-off of the JV game at 6:00 pm.
