The Fishers JV Boys Basketball team beat HCC Conference newcomer Franklin Central in thrilling fashion last Saturday evening by a final score of 50-49. In the 2nd meeting this season between the new conference foes the outcome was eerily similar with the Tigers once again jumping out to an early lead yet unable to completely put the game away allowing the Flashes more than a few opportunities to steal the win in the final seconds but to no avail. Fishers actually fell behind in the opening period with Franklin Central taking a 12-6 advantage after the 1st quarter before the home team wratched up the defensive pressure going on a 19-9 run in the 2nd quarter to take a 25-21 lead into the intermission. In the 2nd half, neither team could pull away with the lead changing 6 times in the 3rd quarter with the Tigers holding a slim 37-32 lead going into the 4th. Again, just as unfolded in the first game between these two teams the Flashes fought back with a fury to start the final quarter of play quickly erasing Fishers slim margin before finally grabbing the lead for the first time since the 2nd quarter with a 3-pointer with just 7.8 seconds putting them up 49-47. Out of the timeout, the Tigers had to go the distance to try and tie or win the game and they would do just that effectively moving the ball to half court and then to Ricardo Elie at the top of the key whom immediately turned and found Max Wuensch on the left wing the ball leaving his fingertips just before the buzzer…..and nothing but the bottom, ballgame! Leading the way for Fishers was Max Wuensch with 19 points and 3 steals, Isaac Bowman with 10 points and 6 rebounds, and Bryce Williams chipped in 9 points and 3 assists. The win moves the Tigers to 9-7 on the season and 2-3 in HCC Conference play.
Fishers is in action again next Thursday, January 31, when they travel to HCC power Westfield with tip-off at 6:00 pm.
