The Fishers JV Boys Basketball team lost a tough, hard-fought battle on Thursday night to HCC Conference foe Brownsburg by a final score of 55-54.
As the Tigers did on Tuesday night they came out of the gate mentally prepared and playing with great intensity helping them grab an early lead but the Bulldogs wouldn’t let it get beyond a couple of possessions to allow them to get right back into it with a few quick baskets, as they did to end the 1st quarter, cutting the Fishers lead to 14-12. In the 2nd quarter, the Tigers found another gear imposing their will on both ends of the court while playing arguably their best and most complete team basketball of the season pushing their lead out to 32-20 going into halftime. However, it would be the visitors who executed on their halftime adjustments to start the 3rd quarter once again responding to a Fishers run with 16-4 run of their own that eventually tied the game up at 36-36 heading into the home stretch. In the 4th, the two teams continued to trade blows with the lead changing 6 times total in the quarter but the Tigers could not overcome one last deficit after falling behind 50-43 with under 2 minutes to play although they did cut the lead to just 1 point with 1.4 seconds remaining only to see their halfcourt desperation heave fall short as time expired moving them to 8-6 on the season and 1-2 in HCC play. In what was again Fishers best total team effort of the season, it’s only fitting that all 9 players scored at least 1 point with Freshman phenom Keefer Soehngen scoring 6 points and pulling down 4 rebounds to go along with two very solid contributions off the bench from Sophomores Max Wuensch and Isaac Bowman who scored 7 and 9 points respectively.
The Tigers are off for a week returning to action next Friday, January 18 when they host yet another Hoosier Crossroads Conference rival Avon with tip-off at 6:00 pm.
