The Tigers Varsity Boys Basketball team were in action tonight on the road against the Carmel Greyhounds. FHS came into the game on a two game losing streak. The Tigers were looking to get back on track with a win in their first of six road games. In the 1st quarter, the Tigers struggled to find their way. The Greyhounds jumped out to an early lead of 12-0. By the end of the quarter, the Tigers cut the Greyhounds lead in half. FHS ended the quarter down 6-12. In the second, the Tigers battled their way back and put together a 17 point quarter. The Tigers went in to halftime down just three points, ending the quarter with a score of 23-26. In the 3rd quarter, both teams became stagnant on the offensive end. Carmel still led the Tigers by four at the end of the quarter 30-34. Going in to the 4th quarter, the Tigers made some big plays down the stretch. The Tigers knocked down three big 3-point shots to keep them close. With 25 seconds to go in the game and the score tied at 47 and Carmel had the ball with a chance to win the game. The Tigers stepped up their defensive intensity and got a steal. Josiah Matthews picked up the ball and raced down to score the game winning basket. The Tigers came away with their second win of the season beating the 17th ranked Carmel Greyhounds 49-47. The Tigers are now 2-3 on the season and 0-1 in conference play. Josiah Matthews led the Tigers in scoring with 15 points. Jeremy Szilagyi and Terry Hicks both added in 12 points. Willie Jackson had 6 points. The Tigers are back in action on the road against cross-town rival, the Hamilton Southeastern Royals, on Friday, December 15th at 7:30pm.
