Fishers JV Silver (9-7-1/3-4-1) avenged their one-run loss to Westfield earlier this season with a commanding 6-0 win in game 1 of the Freshman Invitational baseball tournament.
Joey Wilmoth dominated on the mound throwing a complete game. He allowed 2 hits on the day with 7 strikeouts.
The Tigers jumped on the Shamrocks in the first inning scoring all of their 6 runs. The first 7 batters Fishers sent to the plate would all reach base with 6 hits and 1 walk. Collin McPeek led off with a double followed by a Cody Thomas walk. Kyle Jankowski would bat them both in with a single. Jankowski would score next on a Joe Hietpas single. Curtis Kearschner would then single moving Hietpas to second. Both runners would advance one base on a past ball. James Gibbs would plate Hietpas with a single. Wilmoth would then help his cause to single in Kearschner and Gibbs, which would prove to be the last runs of the game.
Hietpas and Gibbs both had multiple hits for the Tigers, with Hietpas and Wilmoth collecting multiple RBI’s.
