The Fishers Tigers JV Red team (13-9/7-7) defeated the Columbus North Bulldogs by a score of 5-1 behind another complete game victory by Max Maersch and a solid hitting night by the whole team.
The Tigers jumped on the board first with a single by Jack Minns, a ground rule double by Cory Wolter before the 4th hit of the inning – a single by Max Maersch – brought in Minns. Kaid Muth tripled to start the bottom of the 3rd inning before Minns hit a ball down the 1st base line that allowed Muth to easily score.
The Bulldogs answered back with a run in the top of the 4th inning with a 2 out blooper to right field to bring in their only run of the game.
Fishers was finally able to breakthrough and score 3 runs in the bottom of the 5th inning. Zach Humphrey singled before Charlie Walker was able to beat out a bunt. A ground ball moved both runners over before Minns hit a sacrifice fly to score Humphrey. Maersch again stepped up as he drove in two more runs to extend the Tigers lead.
Maersch pitched well on the night as he limited the Bulldogs to only four hits on the night. In addition, he only walked 2 while striking out 7 batters. The defense worked well as Trevor McCoy started a double play to end the 2nd inning. Catcher Kaid Muth picked off two runners at 1st base to end potential scoring threats.
The Tigers host the Zionsville Eagles on Wednesday to start the final series.
