In a battle for the conference championship, the Fishers freshman football team came up short against Westfield losing 16 – 14 Saturday morning. Westfield drew first blood in the match with a FG as the Fishers D was able to keep them out of the endzone in the first quarter. The Fishers offense then responded with a nice drive of their own with a sound running game from the offensive line lead by Grant Haworth and RB Khobie Martin. However, it was the pass from QB Bennett Gorak to WR Joe Syrus that got the Tigers in the endzone and the lead 6 – 3 heading into the half.
In the second half, Westfield needed just 2 plays to find the endzone and take the lead back putting the Tigers down 10 – 6 heading into the 4th quarter. The Tigers offense once again put together a physical running drive and finished it off with a rushing TD by Khobie Martin. This time the Tigers would convert their 2-pt conversion with a pass to Noah McPeak. Tigers now lead 14 – 10 early in the 4th. After a very hard hitting 4th quarter, the Tigers defense found themselves on their own 6 yard line needing to stop Westfield on 4th and 4. Westfield however was able to get just enough for the first down, setting themselves up for a touchdown that would ultimately win the game 16 – 14. It was a great game and championship efforts were given by both teams. The Tigers fall to 6 – 2 this season (4 – 2 in conference play). They will play their final game of the season this Saturday @ Zionsville. Kickoff is set for 10a.m.
