Game Recap

Fishers swept Hamilton Heights (25-16, 26-17, 25-19) in one of our best team wins of the season. Players were working together and using each other’s instincts to defend the Huskies, resulting in 55 digs and 5.0 blocks.
Senior libero Ellie Adams was responsible for 21 of the 55 digs, and she did a lot to put us in system when passing. Junior Julia Drozd (9), junior Ayslinn Roberts (8), and sophomore Audrey Haworth (8) protected the other sections of court extremely well and coordinated with blockers to especially handle tips.
Junior outside Mallory Hernandez led us with 13 kills on 0.500 hitting, and junior middle Liz Weeks hit a perfect nine kills on nine swings! Roberts and Haworth each added seven kills as well.
Sophomore Rose Duffy hustled a lot to get her hitters attacking opportunities, and she totaled 40 assists tonight.
Next week, the Tigers start with two home matches versus Park Tudor Monday and Brebeuf Tuesday, then go on the road to Westfield Thursday, and finish the week Saturday at the North Montgomery Invite.

Meet Recap

The Tigers traveled to Ft. Wayne, IN this past Saturday to battle several of the best teams in the state in the New Haven Classic. The race featured 467 runners representing 23 teams from around the state.

The Tigers got out to a fast start, led by Josh Roth, who was in 2nd place at the first turn. As the runners closed in on the woods loop (approximately 1400 meters into the race) Roth was in the lead pack which contained, Matthew Yoder (Westview), Parker Jones (Pendleton Heights) and Eric Hoffman (Noblesville). Sam Kuhn, Ethan Meyer, Brandon Reyes and Alex Meyer were with the chase pack as the race shifted into the woods.

As the runners left the woods and headed to the 2 mile mark, Roth was still side by side with the other three competitors while the chase pack had thinned out considerably. Kuhn passed the 2 mile mark in 10th and was in a battle with 5 runners from Carroll, E. Meyer in 17th, and Reyes in 22nd.

In the end, Josh Roth finished with a new PR of 15:44.3 which was good enough for 3rd place. Sam Kuhn outlasted the 5 Carroll runners and finished in 7th with a time of 16:04.04. Reyes finished in 19th, crossing the line in 16:29.0, a new PR. Ethan Meyer was 25th (16:35.0) and Aaron Worley was 26th (16:35.8) to round out the team scoring for the Tigers.

Overall the Tigers had 20 runners set new PRs on the IPFW CC Course with another 16 athletes running their season best for the 5k distance.

The Carroll Chargers won the meet with a total score of 51 points. The Tigers finished 2nd with 80 points, the Noblesville Millers 3rd with 85 points, and the Westview Warriors in 4th with 93 points.

Up next for the Tigers is the HCC Cross Country Championship this Saturday at White River Elementary School in Noblesville.

Game Recap

It is with a heavy heart that I report the final game of the 2016 season for the Fishers High School Women’s Silver soccer team. On this perfect night for soccer the Lady Tigers played host to the Brebeuf Braves. Having lost to them earlier in the season the ladies were tasting some redemption. The ladies were exuberant and saddened by the occasion. As the team stood at attention the angelic voice of Kate Michael prepared the evening’s competition with the National Anthem. Awed by the performance of their teammate the ladies took the field ready to do battle. Quickly the Braves tested the defensive skill of Jenna Burow, Delaney Curtis, Maggie Hay and Sophie McGrath. Unfortunately it was apparent that the Braves came to win by putting a goal past Madi Balasko. The ladies gathered themselves and tried to level the score. Kate Michael, Marisa Sanchez and Emiliana Castillo made combinations to set up scoring opportunities, but a second goal temporary dampened their spirit. Needing to energize the team Ellie Albin was inserted into midfield and her “no fear” defending disrupted the Braves’ attack. With the team now firing on multiple cylinders; Alena Gezovich, Laila Sappington and Emma Burns were able to exploit mistakes from the Braves. Unfortunately a break down defensively allowed a third goal goal to slip by. The halftime whistle brought some relief but spirits were faltering. Some changes in formation brought hope for some goals back. The second half saw continued opportunities produced from Caroline Callesano and Samantha Geske on the wings. Needing to help recharge depleted players, Elle Schnettegoeke and Jocelynn Nahkamouune were brought in to fill vitals roles and prevent the Braves from doing more damage. As the sun was setting on the season and time was ticking down the Silver Lady Tigers were able to hold off the score at dismal and not horrible. The ladies came off the field with mixed emotions and as a unified team jogged over and bid our supporters a final show of appreciation. Thank you for a great season.
