The Tigers Unified Track and Field team placed 3rd at the tough Kokomo Regionals on Saturday, scoring 99 points behind Valparaiso (118) and Elkhart Memorial (124). The 3rd place finish qualifies the Tigers for a trip to the State Finals on Saturday, June 1st at IU Bloomington, 11:30am start. This is the Tigers’ third trip to the state finals in the last four years.
The Tigers were led by the winning and personal record performances of Kellen Bridgeforth (long jump 12-8.25), Hayden Lake (100m 16.88) and Devin Hankins (400m 1:10.21). All three young men won their respective flights/heats, scoring a total of 30 points for the Tigers.
Also scoring for the Tigers were the long jump team of Ariana Wills (6th place), Rebecca Lewis (4th place) and Colin Schooley (5th place). Earning points in the shot put were Josh Ibey (2nd place), Evan Barker (5th place), Jack Smith (7th place) and Chloe White (7th place).
Freshman Sam Syrus had another strong performance, earning 2nd place finishes in both the 100m (11.99) and 400m (54.60). Both times were personal bests for Syrus. Lake, Nathan Oman (4th place) and Kristyn Santiago (6th place) rounded out the 100m team. Joining Hankins and Syrus in the 400m were Conner Babcock (4th place) and Carter Gordon (7th place).
The 4×100 relays featured fast teams. The Tigers scored as seeded with the girls team finishing 4th (Santiago, Lindsey Dale, Libby Maahs, Wills) and the boys team also finishing 4th (AJ Valerio, Anthony Bishop, Oman, Ibey).
The Tigers will travel to IU Bloomington at the Billy Hayes Track on Saturday June 1st for the State Finals. The meet starts at 11:30am. The team will depart from FH7 at 8:30am on Saturday.
