The Tigers relied on strong runs by Sam Kuhn and Ethan Meyer to finish 2nd at the Noblesville Sectional this past Saturday to secure a spot in the IHSAA Regional. The conditions changed throughout the morning, making it a challenging day for running.
Hamilton Southeasternâs Gabe Fendel got off to a great start and built a sizeable lead during the first mile. By the time the runners hit the halfway point, the chase pack was down to four runners â Kuhn, Meyer, Guerin Catholicâs Quinn Gallagher, and Carmelâs Ben Miller.
With a little over a mile to go, the chase pack had separated from the field and was gaining ground on Fendel. Will Clark was in a battle for a top 10 finish. While Alex Meyer, Thomas Brelage, and Matt Brown were in pursuit of several runners from Carmel.
Fendel cruised to the win with a time of 15:28.7. Carmelâs Miller was awarded 2nd place and Kuhn 3rd, both crossing the line at 15:41.7. Ethan Meyer took 5th with a personal best time of 15:51.9. Clark had the best finish of any freshman in the field, finishing 11th with a time of 16:23.8. The remaining scorers for the Tigers were Brelage at 16:37.5 (16th) and Brown at 16:38.1 (17th).
