The Tigers took full advantage of the cool fall weather this past Saturday to claim the HCC Boy’s Cross Country Championship. Saturdayâs victory marks the Tigers 2nd championships in the past three years and the 5th in program history (’06, ’07, ’08, ’15, & ’17).
Hamilton Southeastern’s Gabe Fendel got off to a quick start and broke away from the pack during the first 800 meters. Leading the chase pack were Sam Kuhn and Ethan Meyer, almost 20 seconds back at the mile mark. At the halfway point, Kuhn and Meyer were running in 2nd and 3rd overall. Alex Meyer was 6th, Will Clark was in 10th place and Thomas Brelage was 12th.
As the runners closed in on the two-mile mark, Kuhn and Meyer were trailing Fendel by approximately 26 seconds. Alex Meyer was in 9th place followed by Clark in 10th and Brelage in 13th place.
Fendel cruised to the victory in 15:17.5. Kuhn finished in 2nd with a seasoned best time of 15:34.5. Ethan Meyer took 4th with a personal best time of 15:52.4. Rounding out the scoring for the Tigers were Clark 16:05.4 (10th, PR), Brelage 16:10.9 (12th, PR), Matt Brown 16:12.5 (13th, PR).
The Tigers claimed the HCC Title with 41 team points. The Avon Orioles were 2nd with 58 points & the Zionsville Eagles finished in 3rd place with 100 points.
The Tigers will kick off the IHSAA Tournament Series next Saturday at the IHSAA Sectional meet held at White River Elementary School in Noblesville. The varsity boys will compete at 10:30 am followed by the girls at 11:15 am (there will be a $5.00 admission charge).
