The 2017 IHSAA campaign kicked off on a beautiful night from Fishers Reynolds Tiger Stadium. The visiting North Central Panthers came away with a 19-17 victory over the host Fishers Tigers as the Panthers scored from 2 yards out with under a minute to go in the game. North Central outgained the Tigers 263-77 on the ground and 121-68 in the air. The Tigers did force 4 turnovers, but were unable to capitalize. Fishers looks to get on the winning side of the season when they travel to Pike next Friday.

The 2017 IHSAA football season started on a beautiful night at Fishers Reynolds Tiger Stadium. Fishers received the opening kickoff but was forced to punt after gaining just one first down. The North Central Panthers put together a solid drive and converted on both a 3rd and 9 and then a 3rd and 18. The Panthers found pay dirt as Cole Maguire scored from 4 yards out.
F (2:59) – Will Syrus 35 yd pass from Jon Vore (Ben Norton kick)
NC (0:32) – Martel Johnson 18 yd pass from Liam Thompson (Kick no good)
North Central again was on the move to start the 2nd quarter but Roman Molden made a great catch for an interception at the goal line. Molden returned the ball to the Panthers 43 yard line. On the next play, Jon Vore just barely overthrew Collin Statz. Matt Wolff kept the drive going with a 4th down conversion, but the Tigers could not convert on a 43 yard field goal attempt. The Tigers defense forced a punt and were able to get possession. On 4th down, Will Syrus made a leaping catch over the defending and then turned and gain the last couple yards to finish the 35 yard touchdown. The Panthers finished the quarter with a quick drive and a 18 yard touchdown to finish the quarter with a 13-7 lead over the Tigers.

Both teams started the 3rd quarter trading punts. The Tigers defense stepped up as Michael Nettleton intercepted Thompson at midfield. Fishers put together a good drive but fumbled at the 18 and the ball was recovered by the Panthers. North Central gave the ball right back and Nettleton again found the loose ball for the Tigers. On the next play Jon Vore found Bryce Gee with a 47 yard touchdown pass to take a 14-13 lead.

NC (0:54) – George Stokes 2 yd run (Kick blocked
On the first play of the 4th quarter, Nick Douglas sniffed out the screen play and intercepted the ball for the Tigers fourth takeaway of the game at the Panthers 16. The Tigers couldn’t convert on the great field position as Ben Norton converted on a 25 yard field goal to extend the lead to 17-13. North Central put together a long drive in the middle of the 4th quarter but turned the ball over on downs as Daniel Amadi chased down a scrambling Thompson. The Tigers tried to run down the clock but were forced to punt. With the clock under a minute, George Stokes found the end zone for the Panthers to take the decisive 19-17 lead. The Tigers tried to mount a last ditch comeback but turned it over on 4 incomplete passes.
