Zionsville High School
Fishers High School
The Fishers Tigers JV Red team (11-13/4-11) struggled to find consistent offense and committed a couple costly errors in a 7-4 loss to the Zionsville Eagles.
Pitcher Daniel Owens struck out the first batter of the game, but the batter was able to reach base and get to 2nd after the ball skipped by the Tigers catcher and to the backstop. A single scored the run and another Tigers error allowed the inning to continue. The Eagles added another run before Owens struck out the final two outs of a tough inning.
The Tigers managed to narrow the gap to 2-1 in the bottom of the 3rd inning as Blake Bilger tripled and then scored on a passed ball.
However, the 5th inning proved to be costly as the Eagles batted all the way through their line up and put 4 runs on the board. Three errors and a walk were simply too much for the Tigers to overcome in the top half of the inning. In the bottom of the 5th, the Tigers did answer with 2 runs of their own to make it a 6-3 game. Bilger again reached on a dropped fly ball by the left fielder and an error by the shortstop allowed Tristan Baker to reach base and Bilger to score. Anthony DeLucia reached base and the Tigers executed a great 1st/3rd steal to score Baker from 3rd.
Each team would add a run in the 7th inning to make the final score 7-4. Offensively, AJ Waltermann collected two singles, Owens had a double, and Bilgerâs triple were the only hits the Tigers had on the night. Owens did take the loss on the mound as he went 4.2 innings, but gave up 6 hits that led to 4 runs (2 unearned). He did strike out 7 while not walking any batters. Baker worked to give the Tigers a chance as he went the final 2.1 innings allowing 3 runs on 3 hits and one walk while striking out two.
The Tigers finish their 2017 season as they travel to Zionsville on Saturday.
