Tigers Stingy Defense Leads Way to 6-2 Victory over Bishop Chatard!

Fishers (10-6, 2-1) traveled to Bishop Chatard (5-9) Saturday May 13th for a non conference game. The Tigers faced a determined Trojan’s team who would put up a strong defensive fight to keeping the score close and anxiety levels high for all in attendance.
The Tigers started strong by controlling possession and scoring 3 goals in the first quarter by senior attackman Joe O’Connell (3 goals), senior midfielder Max Shores (2 goals, 2assist) and senior midfielder Cam Gieselman (1 goal, 1 assist). The Trojans added a goal of their own and the score after the first quarter was 3-1 Tigers.
The Tigers would continue to keep the majority of possession in the second quarter but turnovers began to eat away at Tiger possessions. The Tigers tallied total 16 turnovers (the majority unforced) in the game. The Tiger defense held the Trojans scoreless in the second quarter by solid defensive play from freshman LSM Colin Bilbrey (4 ground balls), senior defender Zach Celentano (4 ground balls, 2 caused turnovers), senior defender Parker Smith (3 ground balls, 2 caused turnovers) and senior defender Brandon Stoeffler (3 ground balls, 3 caused turnovers). Junior goalie Isaiah Dunnuck (11 saves) was brilliant between the pipes allowing only 2 goals to the Trojans. The score at halftime was 5-1 Tigers.
In the second half the Tigers had difficulty maintaining possession on the ball due to unforced turnovers. The Trojans would score at the 3:00 minute mark of the third quarter pulling closer but that would be their last goal of the afternoon. The Trojans held the Tigers scoreless in the second half with their zone defense.
The score heading into the fourth quarter was 5-2 and the Tigers continued to struggle executing thier offense. The TIgers turned to their defense to help preserve a gritty win holding the Trojans scroeless in the fourth quarter. Isaiah Dunnuck made 4 of his 11 saves in the fourth quarter. Joe O’Connell would score in transition with 1:09 remaining in the game. The final score was 6-2 Tigers.
The Tigers (11-6, 2-1) return to action on Tuesday May 16 at 7:00pm for their final regular season home game against Park Tudor (3-7). The Tigers will recognize their senior players and managers at a ceremony beginning at 6:15pm. This evening is also Youth Night and there will be many acitivities for youth players during the game.
GAME NOTES: – The Tigers outshot the Trojans and tallied 37 total shots. – The Tigers allowed only 2 goals the entire game. This was the Tigers second best defensive performance of the season (#1 Center Grove 3/15/17 – 1 goal allowed). – The player of the game was #15 Isaiah Dunnuck for his 11 saves that preserved the win for the Tigers.
