Multiple Teams · 2016-17 Wrestling Season Preview

Fishers wrestling begins the 2016-17 season on Monday, October 31st.  Coach Harris enters his second year as the head coach for the Fishers Tigers along with his three returning assistant coaches, Coach Garteman, Coach James, and Coach Yoo.

The Tigers welcome back two semi-state qualifiers from last season.  Senior Beau Wilbrandt (22-13) and junior Alex Strueder (40-5) should provide solid leadership for a young Tiger squad.  Other returning grapplers that will make an impact for the Tigers include Spencer Bischoff, Jaren Tunstill, and Josh Ahmed.

Fishers opens their season at the Western Invitational on November 19th and will wrestle four dual meets on the day.  Ten days later, the Tigers open their HCC competition season as they host the Noblesville Millers.  In 2015, the Tigers lost a close battle to the Millers on the Road 32-31.  The only other 2016-17 home event for Fishers will be on January 4th as they host the Royals in Mudsock competition. The Royals lead the overall Mudsock series 7-2.  The Tigers won the first two Mudsock match-ups and have fallen to the Royals over the past seven duals. Post season action will begin on January 28th at the IHSAA Sectional hosted by Zionsville High School.

All athletes interested in wrestling this year should complete the “Register for Sports” on the FHS athletic website and have a current IHSAA completed physical turned into the FHS Athletic Office in order to begin practice on Monday.
