The Tigers finished 3rd in the IHSAA Sectional Meet held at White River Elementary School in Noblesville this past Saturday. It was a near perfect day for running as the temperatures were cool and there was a slight wind cutting across the finish line.
The Tigers got off to a quick start behind the Hamilton Southeastern Royals. The runners came through the first mile at just under a 5:00 minute pace with Gabe Fendel (Hamilton Southeastern) leading followed closely by the Tigersâ Josh Roth. The chase pack included Sam Kuhn, Ethan Meyer and Aaron Worley. At the halfway point, Fendel had a 0:12 second lead on Roth, who was all alone in 2nd place. A large chase pack followed that still included Kuhn, E. Meyer, and Worley.
The pack broke up as the runners hit the 2 mile mark. Fendel continued to lengthen his lead on the rest of the field, which started to thin out. Roth dropped to 6th place; Kuhn was in 7th followed by E. Meyer in 13th.
As the runners made the final push to the finish line, it was Fendel in 1st with a time of 15:33.9. Kuhn finished 8th in 15:50.2, a season best time, and Roth crossed the line at 16:05.0 for 14th place. Ethan Meyer finished in 18th place with a time of 16:13.3, setting a new PR. Rounding out the scoring for the Tigers were Alex Meyer in 21st with a time of 16:20.7, a new PR, and Aaron Worley in 23rd with a time of 16:26.00.
The Tigers finished in 3rd place with 84 team points. The Carmel Greyhounds won the sectional title with a team score of 37 points. The Hamilton Southeastern Royals finished 2nd with 44 points. The Westfield Shamrocks and the Guerin Catholic Golden Eagles also advanced to the IHSAA Regional Meet on Saturday, October 15th at White River Elementary.
