On a beautiful day at the 29th Annual First to the Finish Invitational in Peoria, Illinois, the Fishers Tigers battled some of the best teams in the state of Illinois. The Tigers finished 5th overall, missing 4th by just two points. The meet featured 47 teams and 431 runners.
Josh Roth ran near the front group throughout the majority of the race, navigating the tight turns, soft course, and extremely muddy far loop. Roth finished in 15th overall on the 3 miles course in 15:38.3. Ethan Meyer, Sam Kuhn and Alex Meyer were strong throughout the race, running in the top 50. Ethan crossed the line in 40th place (16:04.7) while Kuhn was right on his heels in 41st (16:05.0). Alex Meyer was 7 seconds back in 54th place, crossing the line at 16:12.4. The move of the meet came from Peter Werling who worked his way through the field to finish in 68th with a time of 16:18.3
The JV/Open race was dominated by the Tigers. Eli Hagedorn was in a small pack that led all runners at the half mile mark. At the 2 mile mark, Chris LaPlante moved into the lead pack followed closely by Thomas Brelage and Quintin Goldman. Matt Brown made a move on the pack in the last mile and finished 6th overall, crossing the line at 16:36.9. Quintin Goldman held his position through most of the race, finishing in 8th with a time of 16:39.0. Rounding out the Tigers JV squad were LaPlante in 10th (16:43.9), Brelage in 11th (16:46.6) and Hagedorn in 14th (16:49.8).
A small portion of the JV Tigers will compete Thursday, September 15th at the Brebeuf JV Invitational. With another twenty JV Tigers toeing the line at the FlashRock Invite on Saturday, September 17th at Northview Christian Church in Carmel. The varsity squad (top 15) will take the weekend off of racing with the month of October and the tournament season fast approaching.
