The Hamilton Country Cross Country Championship at White River Elementary School in Noblesville is home to one of the stateâs best cross country courses and its only fitting for it to host one of the best county meets in the Midwest.
The JV Tigers battled a large contingent of runners from Carmel throughout the race. At the halfway point, Chris LaPlante was holding onto 2nd place in the middle of a large pack of Carmel runners. The initial pack also contained Quintin Goldman in 15th followed by Eli Hagedorn in 16th. As the packed thinned out, LaPlante stayed near the front while Goldman and Hagedorn steadily moved up. In the final push to the line, LaPlante ended up finishing in 4th place (17:19.24), Goldman moved up to 6th (17:42.61), and Hagedorn finished in 12th (17:53.19). Luke Sorrell and Daniel King both had strong performances, finishing 15th and 29th respectively, to round out the top 5 for the Tigers.
The Carmel Greyhounds scored 19 team points to win the JV Race with the Tigers finishing in 2nd (54 points) and the Hamilton Southeastern Royals in 3rd (76 points).
The early part of the cross country season has been marked by rain and lots of it. Last night was no different as the sky opened up right before the varsity races were to begin. The much anticipated showdown between Fishers, Carmel, Westfield and Hamilton Southeastern was cancelled due to weather and course conditions (no make-up date scheduled ).
The JV Tigers will race again on Saturday, September 3rd at the Terre Haute Savings Bank Invitational at the LaVern Gibson Cross Country course Terre Haute.
