Meet Recap
The Noblesville Black & Gold Hokum Karem was a story of perseverance and hard work yesterday for the Tigers. The format consisted of 5 two person teams running a cross country relay consisting of six-one mile loops. The conditions proved to be challenging due to the humidity and wet conditions.
The Tigers entered the meet as the defending meet champions and favorites. They certainly did not disappoint, winning the meet on the final leg of the relay. For the first time in six years, the Tigers had the overall top relay pair, consisting of Josh Roth and Sam Kuhn (29:54.9). The pair battled the top relay pairs from Avon, Westfield and Brebeuf throughout the entire race. Kuhn and Rhys Grealish from Avon fought for the lead the entire last mile, with Kuhn taking control with about 200 meters to go to seal the individual victory. The 2nd Fishers relay pair of Ethan Meyer and Peter Werling ran in 11th place most of the race before moving up the last two miles of the race to finish 8th overall (30:26.3). The duo of Seth Foutty and Andrew Runion steadily gained ground throughout the second half of the race to finish in 14th (30:45.6).
The Tigers finished with 23 overall team points to outlast the Avon Orioles (25 points) and Brebeuf Braves (29 points). However, the AA Division Team Race (Large School) was decided on the tiebreaker (finishing place of the 4th relay pair). With the Tigers and the Orioles tied at 19, the Tigers tandem of Alex Meyer and Ashton Murray brought home the Large School Division team title by finishing 14th overall (31:10.7) and beating the Orioles 4th pair by 22 seconds.
In the Junior Varsity 3k race, the Tigers dominated from the start. At the 1 mile marker, a pack of Fishers runners were being led by Aaron Worley, Aaron Cook and Matt Brown. As the field stretched out, it was Cook crossing the finish line first, followed closely by Brown. Eli Hagedorn finished in 5th, Chris LaPlante in 6th and Dylan Arive in 8th.
The Tigers take to the course again this Tuesday (August 30th) in the Hamilton County Cross Country Championship held White River Elementary School in Noblesville. The JV boys will race at approximately 6:00 pm with the varsity crew set to toe the line around 7:00 pm.
