The Fishers Tigers Varsity Baseball team (10-12/3-9) defeated 3A #2 Crawfordsville tonight by a score of 7-2 in the Victory Field Classic. The win improved the Tigers to 3-0 all time at Victory Field.
The Tigers jumped out to an early lead scoring 4 runs in the 1st and 3 runs in the 2nd. After a 1-2-3 top of the 1st, Brendan Toungate led off the bottom of the 1st with a single to right field. An errant pickoff throw allowed Toungate to advance to 3rd. Jacob Totman knocked in Toungate for the first Tiger run. One batter later, Ben Shealey executed a perfect bunt and run. With two outs, Matthew Wolff connected on a 2-strike 2-run single, and Mike Folta added his own 2-strike RBI single one batter later to give the Tigers a 4-0 lead after the 1st.
In the 2nd inning, the Tigers added 3 more runs with two outs. Totman reached on a hit by pitch, and Andy Bennett walked. Totman and Bennett executed a double steal and later scored on Shealey’s 2-strike 2-out 2-run single to give the Tigers a 7-1 lead after the 2nd inning.
Totman and Shealey both had 2 hits. Totman and Wolff both had 2 stolen bases. The Tigers stole 7 bases total.
Ryan Metz (3-2) started the game on the mound and threw 6 strong innings. Metz allowed 8 hits and 2 earned runs while striking out 4. Elliott Gilmore pitched a scoreless 7th and struck out 2.
The Tigers return to action Saturday when they travel to Carmel for an 11am start.
