Game Recap

The Fishers Tigers Varsity Baseball team (1-1/0-0) dropped a heartbreaker in Game 1 of their Tennessee trip to Goodpasture Christian (TN). With 1 out, a runner on 3rd, and the game tied 1-1 in the bottom of the 7th, Goodpasture connected on a choppy single over the head of Tiger Senior Shortstop Brandon Yoho for the walkoff victory.

Sophomore Luke Duermit (0-1) picked up the tough loss on the mound after pitching a brilliant game. Duermit was perfect through 3 before giving up a leadoff 2-strike homerun to start the 4th. Duermit settled back in after the homerun and continued to dominate Goodpasture hitters. Overall, Duermit threw 6.1 innings, allowed 2 earned runs on 4 hits, while striking out 5 and walking only 1. Junior Christian Chapman came on in relief and gave up the game-winning choppy single.

Offensively, the Tiger hitters were kept off-balance but hit a lot of “at ’em balls.” The Tigers did not strike out the entire game, but struggle to put together consecutive hits. The lone run came in the top of the 7th inning when Sophomore Brendan Toungate connected on a 2-out single up the middle to tie the game at 1. Senior Jacob Totman contribute 2 singles and Sophomore Caleb Brenczewski added a double in the loss.
