The past week has been quite busy for the Fisher Tiger Rugby Club.  This week’s summary begins with a recap of a tough varsity match against Royal Irish a week ago.  The Tigers battled hard against the Irish who were ranked #2 in the Nation in the Multi School Division.  The Tigers lost 22-17 but came away with motivation and the confidence that they can compete at the highest level.  Scoring for the Tigers against the Irish were Jake Winkle and Michael Nettleton (x2).  Cameron Maclean-Kennedy added a kick.  Although the Tigers lost, the effort was recognized by the Goff Rugby Report as the Tigers advanced 6 spots to be ranked 14th in the Nation.

While the Varsity team had most of the week off, the JV team was quite busy.  JV also lost to the Irish team to start the week.  The JV final score was 10-0.  Although the JV Tigers started the week with a loss, they rebounded quite nicely securing victories over Avon 10-5 and the Varsity Team from Zionsville 48-0. Special recognition at the Zionsville Match went to Captain Gabe Black and Man of the Match Munashe Moyo.

The week was capped off by the annual Mudsock match against HSE High School.  The team celebrated Senior night and had the opportunity to honor the seniors who played this year.  Many of whom played Rugby in the Tiger program for four years.  The Varsity team jumped out early and never looked back outscoring the Royals 88-7.  The win marked the highest scoring output of the season.  Nine different players scored against the HSE team.  Scoring for the Tigers were Bryce Reardon (x2), Michael Prewitt, Seth Sontich (x2), Trevor Pierce, Drew Schneider (x3), Jaydon Hudson (x2), Jake Winkle (x2) and Anthony Arnce.  JV also played well and beat the Royals 53-0.

Next up for the Tigers is the National Invitational Tournament held in Kansas City.  The tournament will be held in the Swope Soccer Village in Kansas City, Missouri.  The team starts tournament play against Sacramento Jesuit from California.  Jesuit is the current #1 team in the nation according to Goff Rugby.  Nationals begin Thursday May 18th and conclude May 20th.   Click here for the Nationals Schedule

The 2017 Boys HS Rugby National Championships will be live-streamed by FloRugby. This is the link to see it (signup required).
